Security in Zone-based E/E Architectures

Abstract

The inner-vehicles network, i.e. the E/E architecture, faces a huge transition: from a Domain-centralized one, where Electronic Control Units (ECUs) are separated based on the automotive Domain they belong to (chassis, ADAS, powertrain, body, infotainment), to a Zone-based one, where ECUs are now grouped by phyical proximity within the vehicle. This change poses several challenges to the security of the overall vehicle. In this talk, we discuss typical solutions to these on a architectural level as well as down to the level of a single, cross-Domain ECU.
