Foundational Security for Your Real-Time Autonomous System Network

Zusammenfassung

Real-time autonomous systems, ranging from vehicles to robots and industrial control systems, rely on robust and secure communication networks. This keynote explores current trends in securing these networks at the foundational Layer 2, addressing both modern and legacy protocols. We discuss the application of MACsec for Automotive Ethernet and introduce CANsec, a novel security solution designed for CAN XL with potential for adaptation to CAN FD. While these advances offer significant improvements, challenges remain, particularly in developing efficient group key agreement and authentication protocols suitable for resource-constrained real-time systems. This presentation highlights these open problems and motivates future research towards building robust, secure, and real-time capable communication networks for the next generation of autonomous systems.
